CAN I EQUIP MY CAR WITH RUN-FLATS?

Naturally, it is a question on everyone’s mind. Tire brands and experts have come up with varying answers. Some argue that you shouldn’t equip your vehicle with a run-flat unless the original equipment tires were also run-flat. The reason is that the car’s suspension, chassis, and wheel are a bit different. Thus, if you install run-flats on a non-compatible vehicle, you can damage the vehicle or even void the warranty.

On the other side, experts believe that there is no harm in equipping a run-flat tyre on any vehicle. However, the car must have a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). Otherwise, the driver might not know that the tire is flat until it’s too late. Some even recommend that the vehicle must have an electronic stability control system (ESC).

CAN I MOUNT RUN-FLAT TIRES WITH STANDARD TYRES?

It is never recommended. The reason is apparent – the two types are different from one another. Hence, there is no need to mix them up unless it is an emergency. Even then, it would help if you replaced the tires as soon as possible. Tire experts say that mixing run-flat with ordinary tires can cause problems in handling, suspension, and even the TPMS. Again, this is never recommended unless it is an emergency. The reason is that each tire brand uses different technologies for its run-flat tires. Thus, by mixing them up, you might feel a dip in performance or even void the tire warranty.
